Connections

The Client: TELUS International

The Industry: BPO

The Team: Women from the Executive Leadership Team

The project

Introduced in 2006, Connections is an initiative supporting the professional development of women at TELUS and TELUS International in Canada and abroad.

In 2015, I led the launch of the international chapter in Guatemala partnering with a group of women and men across TELUS International to create a community that empowers and embraces women in leadership positions.

Connections’ vision is for TELUS International to be an employer and supplier of choice for women – empowering them, inspiring success and celebrating diversity. Our members develop and participate in leadership development opportunities, volunteer together in their communities, build relationships with our customers and connect with one another at networking events.

User centered design

Connections' focus from its inception was helping and enabling the career of the women at TELUS International. In order to do this we came up with a chapter strategy that was centered around the women we were creating value for. We did this through interviews, focus groups and surveys, taking these insights and turning them into opportunities for the Connections Chapter.

the team

The core Connections team is made up women who are leaders at TELUS International; together we planned our yearly strategy focusing around providing women across the company with the adequate tools and resources to grow their careers.

While Connections is a women-led initiative we really could not do everything we do without the support of the men or allies as we like to call them. Our allies foster diversity in the organization, recognize the value of all Team Members, supports the development of all Team Members and challenges other leaders to do the same and manages their biases to truly be inclusive leaders.

In 2016, over 350 women participated in Connections activities, while 34% of women were promoted in TELUS International.
